Good News The Chimps Knew Before We Did
Almost a year ago, my conversation with some chimpanzees in Tanzania yielded the following:
"We’ve waited a long time. Just about gave up on you humans. But in the past few months alone, the changes for the better have been miraculous. It gives us hope that you can stop the slide into destruction and reverse it. This we say because we hear there is much more going on than what we see in the jungle—Asia in particular. Great efforts going on there."
WELL....THE CHIMPS WERE RIGHT...AND HERE IS THE AMAZING GOOD NEWS:
On Dec. 31, 2017, all registered ivory carving facilities, ivory wholesalers and ivory retailers in China closed, thus ending the world’s largest domestic ivory market and fulfilling a joint commitment made in 2015 between China’s President Xi Jinping and then U.S. President Barack Obama.
