The Missing Piece in Human Transformation

Updated: Jul 14, 2019

"Show me a happy human, and I'll show you a happy dog." - Mr. T

This has to be one of the best wedding photos ever, as this dog is simply ecstatic over the intense joy of her humans' NOW moment. But this kind of peak experience (Mr. T calls them "bookmarks") is not what the animals refer to when they keep coming through on the topic of JOY.

From horses and hippos to dolphins, the animals have made it a point to demonstrate that joy is the missing piece in our attempts to transform. Our efforts to focus on the good, find the lesson in the face of adversity and evolve into the most authentic, loving versions of ourselves (among other challenges) have created major seriousness here in human land. And it's actually holding us back and limiting our results.

As with most things, we humans can overthink even the concept of joy: we imbue it with such expectations and projections that it appears unattainable. Once again: the animals come to our rescue with simplification and clarity, sharing some very accessible experiences and understanding of joy. We have only to slow down long enough to set the stage for joy to emerge from within us.

DO THINGS THAT ARE KIND TO YOU - JABULANI (ELEPHANT)

“We watch the little ones and their antics. Get into a good game (some of us like playing with a ball). We never underestimate the power of a mudbath and fully experiencing it with our senses (our version of a spa). And always, we stop to take in the beauty of Mother Earth’s sunrises, sunsets, the clouds and the breeze. These are all examples of how we are kind to ourselves.”

DO THE THINGS THAT CHILDREN DO-

“Take time to play games. Children are great helpers with this. Walk in the water, sing a song, dance, giggle—these are all good for you and everything around you. It isn’t hard or complicated; it’s the process of de-complicating things that brings joy and healing. See yourselves—all of you—as children: innocent, loving, and joyful, for this is the truth deep within.”

DELIGHT IN NATURE OR ANOTHER’S LIGHT

"Roll in the grass and under the stars. Listen to Nature to heal. Use your senses fully, for they are gateways to joy. If you cannot find joy in Nature, find it in the eyes and laugh of another being."

DO SOMETHING HARMLESS THAT MAKES YOU LAUGH -PANDA

“You need to laugh at least once a day, ‘bear minimum.’ Find something harmless that makes you laugh. Forget being human and just be, instead. Sit on your bum bum like we do.

Build a sand castle, play an instrument or cards. Smile.”

RE-DEFINE “FUN”- SWEET LOU (HORSE)

“We horses know how to have fun. Fun means not thinking, for a change: not striving to perfect something, make an impression, learn something, clean up after yourself or fix something that’s broken. Fun just is… It’s breathing in beautiful scents in the air. It’s being able to run, taste lovely things and be with someone you care about, even just doing nothing!

“I’m not sure, but I think people expect fun to knock their socks off. No! Fun is simple things that are magical, but humans don’t take the time to see it. Fun doesn’t have to shock your adrenaline into overdrive. The definition of fun, I think, is the gratefulness for being able to stop doing your ‘to do’ list.”

DEDICATE SOME MOMENTS IN YOUR DAY TO JOY - ORANGUTAN

“You should take a walk on the wild side with me. It’s a carnival ride here in the jungle if you know how to travel through it. Your life can be like that too, and what will help is making your chores feel like play. This is how:

Whatever you’re doing, pause to see the prettiness in something or someone, it makes the to-do’s go faster. Stop and look at the butterflies, they are magical creatures.

Little bits of lightness, that’s what you all need.

The more you do this, the more the bits of prettiness and light show up for you. You become a magnet drawing them to you to sparkle up your day.”

RE-ALLOCATE YOUR TIME – HIPPO

“If it’s all an illusion—and it most certainly is—then ignore the fake smoke and haze and go where the light is bright, the water is cool and the air smells good, ya dig? Live big or go home, that’s my motto.

Go out and play, for goodness sake! Dance and sing and eat and flirt and hug and kiss and do those human things, because human is what you are and there is some good that goes with that.

The missing piece is joy, and that’s in short supply these days. So you humans need to start planning your time better to allow for it:

TIME IN STILLNESS.

TIME IN PLAY.

TIME IN WORK AND TO-DO'S play.

You humans are so lopsided in how you portion off your time and energy.”

REMEMBER: JOY REQUIRES NO ONE ELSE BUT YOU - DOLPHIN

“You may be alone or with another person when you feel joy, but we’re telling you, it is you experiencing your true nature—not experiencing another person—that creates joy. The other person’s love acts as a mirror, so it may make it easier for you to see yourself. But remember, it is always you experiencing you that results in joy.”

P.S - HOW ABOUT A LITTLE SYNCHRONICITY? THIS WAS IN MY INBOX RIGHT AFTER I POSTED THIS BLOG. courtesy of Abraham-Hicks:

"Everything exists for joy. There is not one other reason for life than joy. We’ve got nothing to prove to anyone, because nobody other than All-That-Is is watching. In other words, we’re not trying to get brownie points from some other galaxy. We’re not trying to get someplace else; we’re not trying to get it done, because there is no ending—we cannot get it done. Everything exists for the purpose of joy in the moment."
