The Urgent Need for Human Joy (To Help Animals)
AN ORANGUTAN’S URGENT MESSAGE:
While I was otherwise occupied at a doctor’s appointment the other day, an orangutan inserted her image and energy behind my eyes, with immense urgency:
Orangutan: “May I speak with you?"
And without pausing, she continued:
"You must tell people there are many more of us than they think. “The world is weeping for us and all creatures and we feel it. The heaviness is unbearable.
“Humans have no idea that they are actually creating what they don’t want to see with their sadness, grief and rage.
“Please tell them that darkness will win if frustration, anger and resentment reign; the same goes for helplessness and victimhood.
“Please speak for us: we are energetic beings and we feel what is in the Web [of Life]. We feel the energy of humans no matter where they are. They will help us by finding joy in their own lives.”
I realize it may be hard for some to fully embrace the concept that animals all over the world feel the emotions going through us. Then again, as a squirrel told me:
"There is an unseen world and all animals can see it except humans. You can't see the energy web that connects everything so you have to try and believe it with your brain."
Nevertheless, the orangutan made me realize that so many of us are feeling the woes of the planet that we may have forgotten HOW to experience Joy. So, I've re-printed the following - some simple ways that some animals experience joy. Perhaps their ideas will jog the memories of those of us who have forgotten our own pathways to joy:
DO THINGS THAT ARE KIND TO YOU - JABULANI (ELEPHANT)
“We watch the little ones and their antics. Get into a good game (some of us like playing with a ball). We never underestimate the power of a mudbath and fully experiencing it with our senses (our version of a spa). And always, we stop to take in the beauty of Mother Earth’s sunrises, sunsets, the clouds and the breeze. These are all examples of how we are kind to ourselves.”
HONEY BEE (HORSE)
DO THE THINGS THAT CHILDREN DO-
“Take time to play games. Children are great helpers with this. Walk in the water, sing a song, dance, giggle—these are all good for you and everything around you. It isn’t hard or complicated; it’s the process of de-complicating things that brings joy and healing. See yourselves—all of you—as children: innocent, loving, and joyful, for this is the truth deep within.”
DELIGHT IN NATURE OR ANOTHER’S LIGHT
"Roll in the grass and under the stars. Listen to Nature to heal. Use your senses fully, for they are gateways to joy. If you cannot find joy in Nature, find it in the eyes and laugh of another being."
DO SOMETHING HARMLESS THAT MAKES YOU LAUGH -PANDA
“You need to laugh at least once a day, ‘bear minimum.’ Find something harmless that makes you laugh. Forget being human and just be, instead. Sit on your bum bum like we do.
Build a sand castle, play an instrument or cards. Smile.”
RE-DEFINE “FUN”- SWEET LOU (HORSE)
“We horses know how to have fun. Fun means not thinking, for a change: not striving to perfect something, make an impression, learn something, clean up after yourself or fix something that’s broken. Fun just is… It’s breathing in beautiful scents in the air. It’s being able to run, taste lovely things and be with someone you care about, even just doing nothing!
“I’m not sure, but I think people expect fun to knock their socks off. No! Fun is simple things that are magical, but humans don’t take the time to see it. Fun doesn’t have to shock your adrenaline into overdrive. The definition of fun, I think, is the gratefulness for being able to stop doing your ‘to do’ list.”
DEDICATE SOME MOMENTS IN YOUR DAY TO JOY - ORANGUTAN
“You should take a walk on the wild side with me. It’s a carnival ride here in the jungle if you know how to travel through it. Your life can be like that too, and what will help is making your chores feel like play. This is how:
Whatever you’re doing, pause to see the prettiness in something or someone, it makes the to-do’s go faster. Stop and look at the butterflies, they are magical creatures.
Little bits of lightness, that’s what you all need.
The more you do this, the more the bits of prettiness and light show up for you. You become a magnet drawing them to you to sparkle up your day.”
RE-ALLOCATE YOUR TIME – HIPPO
“If it’s all an illusion—and it most certainly is—then ignore the fake smoke and haze and go where the light is bright, the water is cool and the air smells good, ya dig? Live big or go home, that’s my motto.
Go out and play, for goodness sake! Dance and sing and eat and flirt and hug and kiss and do those human things, because human is what you are and there is some good that goes with that.
The missing piece is joy, and that’s in short supply these days. So you humans need to start planning your time better to allow for it:
TIME IN STILLNESS.
TIME IN PLAY.
TIME IN WORK AND TO-DO'S play.
You humans are so lopsided in how you portion off your time and energy.”
REMEMBER: JOY REQUIRES NO ONE ELSE BUT YOU - DOLPHIN
“You may be alone or with another person when you feel joy, but we’re telling you, it is you experiencing your true nature—not experiencing another person—that creates joy. The other person’s love acts as a mirror, so it may make it easier for you to see yourself. But remember, it is always you experiencing you that results in joy.”
ANIMAL WISDOM STORIES VIDEO:
As part of our ongoing joint Joy Project, fellow animal communicator Miriam Thiel-Alberts and I had a fun interview on her show Animal Wisdom Stories: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ot24ncVMXFc&feature=share
"Everything exists for joy. There is not one other reason for life than joy. We’ve got nothing to prove to anyone, because nobody other than All-That-Is is watching. In other words, we’re not trying to get brownie points from some other galaxy. We’re not trying to get someplace else; we’re not trying to get it done, because there is no ending—we cannot get it done. Everything exists for the purpose of joy in the moment."
